Post-Biopsy Care Instructions

Here are your post-biopsy wound care instructions! We will contact you with results. If you do not hear from us within two weeks, contact us at 720-778-3376.

  1. Leave the bandage on for 24 hours.
  2. After 24 hours, remove the bandage and cleanse gently with soap and water.
  3. Apply a thin film of Vaseline or Aquaphor and then cover with a non-occlusive bandage/bandaid.
  4. Wash and dress the wound daily.
  5. If the wound is oozing, cleanse with diluted hydrogen peroxide (1 tablespoon hydrogen peroxide in 1 cup of water) and leave it open for a few hours when home.
  6. Most biopsy wounds heal well within 1-2 weeks. Once healed, discontinue bandaging.

Signs of infection include increasing redness, persistent pain, and drainage of pus. If you suspect an infection, please notify the office immediately at 720-778-3376.

The redness and discoloration of a biopsy scar takes an average of 6-12 months to fade away, and often longer on the legs.
