Wrinkle Treatment in Lakewood, CO
Every laugh shared with loved ones, every smile at a stranger, and every moment of surprise or concentration leaves its mark in our skin. These expressions make us who we are, but as the lines become more deeply ingrained in our faces, they can also leave us feeling less like ourselves.
Many of our patients tell us they still feel young and energetic inside, but their reflection shows something different. Neuromodulators like Dysport can smooth unwanted lines while maintaining your unique features and facial movement.
Dermatology Healthcare Excellence is a leading destination for Dysport services in Lakewood and the greater Denver area. Your results leave you looking refreshed and natural – like yourself on your best day.
What Is Dysport?
Like many medical breakthroughs, wrinkle-relaxing injectables began with scientists noticing something unexpected. Years ago, researchers observed that a purified protein could selectively relax specific muscles. This discovery led to the development of Botox and then Dysport.
Since 1990, Dysport has been successful in treating a number of medical and aesthetic concerns in dozens of countries around the world. These are just a few of the reasons why the DHE team and our patients love this remarkably versatile injectable:
- FDA approved
- Nonsurgical, minimally-invasive treatment
- No incisions or anesthesia necessary
- No required downtime
- Quick onset of action
- Consistent treatments can make the benefits last longer
- Pairs well with other treatments

How Does Dysport Work?
Some wrinkles form when we use our muscles to make facial expressions. We call these “dynamic lines”.
When we’re young, our skin springs back to smoothness after expressions and the dynamic lines disappear. But as we get older, and our skin crinkles in the same way over and over again, the lines become ingrained. Eventually, we can see them even when our face is relaxed.
Injectable neuromodulators like Dysport target the nerves that control muscle movement and “mute” them. When treated with Dysport, the nerves cannot produce signals that trigger muscle contractions. This keeps the muscles in a relaxed state, resulting in less pronounced lines and a smoother, more youthful complexion.
What Areas Can Dysport Treat?
Areas in the upper face are most likely to develop dynamic lines, including crow’s feet, horizontal forehead creases and vertical frown lines between the eyebrows (also called glabellar lines or “11s”).
Dysport is FDA-approved for temporary improvement in the look of moderate to severe frown lines. We can discuss other treatment areas during your consultation.
The DHE Difference
At Dermatology Healthcare Excellence, we believe great results start with great relationships. You won’t find assembly-line treatments here – instead, you’ll experience the superior levels of care and attention that come from working with a practice that puts patients first.
We never rush through appointments or pressure you into treatments. We see ourselves as partners in your aesthetic journey, offering education and honest recommendations about what might work for you. Our patients often tell us they appreciate feeling heard and understood.
What Happens During a Dysport Treatment?
A first-time consultation is essential. During your consultation, we will ask you to make expressions while we examine your face. This is how we confirm that you’re a suitable candidate for Dysport, and also how we identify which muscles require treatment.
The injections take only minutes and do not require anesthesia. Your injector will clean the treatment area, then administer Dysport with a fine needle into specific muscles. You may feel a stinging sensation during the process, but it is brief and tolerable for most patients.
Dysport is often referred to as a “lunchtime procedure” because it is so quick. You can return to work or other daily activities immediately afterward.
What Should I Expect After Dysport Injections?
We recommend following these guidelines after your treatment:
- Keep your head upright for 4 hours
- Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours
- Don’t rub or massage the treated areas for 24 hours
- Stay out of saunas and hot tubs for 48 hours
- Skip facials, chemical peels and laser treatments for 1-2 weeks
You might experience mild tenderness, slight bruising or tiny pink dots at the injection sites, but these effects are temporary and can be covered with makeup.
We’ll schedule a brief follow-up appointment two weeks after your treatment. This allows us to assess your results and make any necessary refinements to ensure you love your results.
When Will I See Results From Dysport?
Some patients notice improvements as early as two to three days after Dysport injections, but don’t worry if you don’t see changes so soon. Full results develop within 14 days of treatment.
Once it takes full effect, you’ll notice smoother skin and a more refreshed appearance. The treated muscles won’t be paralyzed entirely, but they will be relaxed enough to prevent significant skin creasing. People might comment that you look well-rested or ask if you’ve changed your skincare routine.
How Long Will My Dysport Results Last?
One treatment provides results that may last for up to five months. When the Dysport starts to wear off, your muscles will gradually regain movement, and the lines and wrinkles will reappear. Two to three treatments per year can keep your skin looking naturally smooth and youthful.
“My skin was in really bad shape. Coming here was the best decision. Dr Basak and her staff were so nice. It’s been 3 days and already my skin is getting better. THANK YOU!”

Frequently Asked Questions
Both are effective neuromodulators that have long track records of success. Dysport typically spreads a bit more after injection, which can be advantageous for treating larger areas like the forehead. It also takes effect faster for some patients. Because the proteins in each product are slightly different, some people respond better to one than the other.
Yes, it’s perfectly safe to switch between these treatments. Many of our patients have tried both. If you’re currently using Botox and are curious about moving to Dysport, we’re happy to discuss the potential benefits of making a switch.
It depends on your goals, your skin, your muscles and your preferences. Some people start to see wrinkles in their 20s, while others don’t develop noticeable lines until their 30s. You can consider this treatment whenever you notice lines that bother you, especially if you see them while your face is at rest.
Dysport and fillers are different kinds of injectables. Fillers are soft, gel-like substances injected underneath your skin to treat static wrinkles, restore lost volume or contour your face. Dysport and dermal fillers are often used together to smooth static lines and dynamic lines in one session.
Absolutely not! A growing number of men are embracing injectables to age on their own terms and feel more vibrant. Dysport treatments for men are largely the same as treatments for women. The primary difference is that men often need a higher dosage than women because they have larger, stronger facial muscles.
Injectables require expertise and artistry to achieve the best results. Dr. Basak carefully evaluates each patient’s facial structure, muscle movement patterns and aesthetic goals before recommending a treatment plan. This personalized approach helps ensure you get natural-looking results that allow you to express yourself and don’t erase your individuality.
